GOVERMENTS
In modern times, the government is usually decided by the people, which is so called democracy. In Antigone, which portrait the ancient times, democracy was not commonly used in the government system. Usually, there was just one king who ruled over everything. In this case, it was King Creon. King Creon was a dictator and the whole country listens to him only. For example, when Haemon attempted to persuade Creon to let Antigone live, Creon always disagreed because he though that his way was always the best. To help persuade his father, Haemon even used the people’s ideas about the situation. Because Creon was a dictator, he didn’t take any advice the commoners gave him, and made his bad choice of sending Antigone to the tomb. I think Creon, was quite dumb to make that choice. If he wasn’t so proud of his decisions and listened to others, not so much trouble would have been caused. I mean, when the whole country unites together and says one thing, then it should be the correct thing to do. I think If Creon listened to the commoners a bit, then the situation would have been a lot better. Look at today, all of the world’s strongest and most powerful countries are run in a democratic government. There are no dictator run countries that are even close to being listed as one of the most powerful or strongest or richest country in the world. But, democracy at Creon’s time was not common, and plus the fact of him being proud, he wouldn’t listen to the commoners.
